Description

Donald Byrd “Off To The Races” Blue Note 4007 RVG Original Vinyl.

This is the 1959 RVG-stamped, Flat Rim, Deep Groove, original edition of Donald Byrd’s “Off To The Races” on the 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 4007. “P” or “ear” in deadwax. Musicians include Byrd, Jackie McLean, Pepper Adams, Wynton Kelly Sam Jones, Art Taylor.

VINYL is in very good, largely noise-free condition with occasional, audible ticks and pops. As with all Lexington to New York USA Blue Note pressings, imperfections do not detract from the bold music pressed in these RVG-cut deep grooves. Excellent gloss both sides. Deep Grooved labels are clean with minor fading and some evidence of spindle marks (small ink mark). Playing surface has areas of audible ticks, and areas that are 80% noise free. Side 1 no feelable scratches, Side 2 two feelable 1” scratches. Instruments big, bold, dynamic, full of tone, clean and clear. 

Laminated COVER is excellent condition, nearly perfect. No seam or spindle splits. Corners mildly worn. “47 West 63rd St., New York 23” back jacket Gorgeous condition, two small tears left opening. Clean!

This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
