Sleeve Notes: ”One of the most recent developments - no less significant for sneaking up almost unnoticed – has been the way that a few small jazz groups have started featuring their own material. The music played by the Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet is a particularly brilliant example of this. In their case it seems to have happened by accident rather than design, a natural evolution, helped along by the fact that the group has an uncommonly stable personnel. (There has been only one change - Michael Garrick coming in as pianist – during the past four years) This produces a close sympathy among the musicians, conditions which allow the composers to write with specific players very much in mind.”
