DEXTER GORDON “One Flight Up” Blue Note RVG, P, BST 84176 Stereo Vinyl
This is 1964, first edition, “Van Gelder” stamped, “P” pressing of DEXTER GORDON’s “One Flight Up” on the "New York USA” labels of Blue Note BST 84176. Musicians include Dexter Gordon - tenor saxophone, Donald Byrd – trumpet, Kenny Drew – piano, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen – bass, Art Taylor - drums.
VINYL plays with consistent low- to occasionally medium-level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with occasional pops and ticks. Repeating tick Side 1, #1. But ensemble sections are very clear, dynamic and strong with clean transients and full bass. Plays very well overall; surface noise largely unnoticeable on much of record. Drums extremely present. No distortion. No skips. Excellent gloss. Handful of hairline marks, none feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The “New York USA” labels are clean, some label wear, spindle wear. See photos.
COVER is in excellent shape. Corners worn. Seams and mostly clean, 2” split lower seam at opening. Spine shows 2” beginning of split at bottom. BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st., New York 23” back jacket very clean. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system including Kuzma turntable and Hana EL cartridge. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC CLEANER.
