A 1972 UK pressing from the brilliant DAVID BOWIE and his band.
This album was clearly an intriguing concept, and it was at the spearhead of the new GLAM ROCK scene. The Sweet, Slade and Bowie's pal Marc Bolan were wearing shiny outfits already but hadn't a direction as fascinating and attention demanding as Bowie. He thrust the gay imagery to the forefront, pulling his reluctant band into it with him!
Indeed, guitarist Mick Ronson wasn't too pleased...until he noticed the sexual attraction it held for female fans - and that spurred his interest in acting it out.
I saw them as a supporting band to The Groundhogs and even in liberated Brighton - they were quite shocking on stage, simulating lurid sex and courting controversy. It was great music, including mime and strobes flashing. Truly amazing!
They played songs from Hunky Dory and Man Who Sold The World and previewed some first tracks for this lp, Five Years, Moonage Daydream and Hang On To Yourself - a couple of tunes already demo'd under the pseudonym 'Arnold Corns'
Here on offer is an early edition bought soon after first 1972 release - and before the publishing was owned solely by MAINMAN. Therefore that is NOT on the back cover, just the original GEM PRODUCTION credit!
There's references to Mainman only on these early lables.
What is extra special is that this is in SPECTACULAR condition all around, the inner has been kept separated from the disc and therefore there's not any wear, stressed seams or rubbing on it since new!
The cover is kept in a plastic protective sleeve too,and this whole package is in superb shape.
CONDITION;
The VINYL grades NEAR MINT. A LOVELY copy- no scratches, scuffs, or anything - and playing is wonderful!
Labels are in MINT CONDITION, no stickers or writing.
The single card COVER is EXCELLENT, as is the lyric and photo custom inner.
Just a BEAUTIFUL example.
See pictures.
