description:
Scarce album privately issued by Creative Computing Magazine to document the 1978 Philadelphia Computer Music Festival (which was part of the Personal Computing '78 convention). The selections showcase the various digital audio technology available at the time, including some obscure synthesizers, featuring the RCA COSMAC, ALF, NOTRAN, Software Technology, Newtech, Solid State, and Schertz computer music systems. The machines "play" a strangely eclectic mix of pop and classical tracks by the Beatles, Scott Joplin, J.S.Bach, Rimsky-korsakov (played backwards!), Neil Diamond, Pachelbel, Johann Wanhal, and others, using mostly early video game-like sounds (think Donkey Kong-era). There's also an archival track by D.H. Van Lenten of Bell Laboratories, 'Synthesized Computer Speech Demonstration,' excerpted from the 1963 Computer Speech ep originally issued in small numbers by Bell Labs (Van Lenten was among the first researchers of computer-generated music/speech at Bell Labs along with Max Mathews, John R. Pierce, Newman Guttman, James Tenney, Jean-Claude Risset, etc.). Includes insert with additional notes about the festival and the magazine (with headings like 'What is computer music?' and 'The personal computer revolution').

Should be of interest to fans of computer musicians and early electronic pop artists like Gottfried Michael Koenig, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Barry Vercoe, J.K. Randall, Raymond Scott, Bruce Haack, Pierre Henry, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Gershon Kingsley, Robert Moog, Tom Dissevelt, Donald Buchla, Paul Lansky, Jon Appleton, Pietro Grossi, and Piero Umiliani.

Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective) reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.

Payment I accept Paypal (which allows for fastest possible shipment). Please email with any payment questions. If you are paying by Paypal and have won multiple items, please use a single Paypal payment. I will send an eBay invoice to winners shortly after my auctions close, and an email after payment has been received to confirm item shipment.

Other Info Feel free to email me if you have any questions (need more info, want more pictures, etc.); you can use eBay's 'ask a question' function. Records are visually graded unless otherwise noted; my condition rating scale is M (sealed) / NM (unplayed) / EX (barely used) / VG (some evident wear from prior use but no major flaws) / G (major flaws) / F (very major flaws). All included album inserts are pictured in the listing; what you see is what you get, if I know an insert is missing I will mention it in the description. Satisfaction guaranteed; if you have any problems with your order please contact me directly.
