Description
I'm very pleased to offer a package of Cold Chisel vinyl records and promotional materials from the late 1970's/early 1980's.
This is part of a vast collection of 1970's/80's Australian rock records and memorabilia that has come to us from the estate of a gentleman who booked bands in the Geelong area during that time, mainly for the Waurn Ponds Hotel, then a rather lonely outpost on the Princes Highway as you head towards Colac (now a pokies venue in amongst housing estates - ahh, development). This gentleman booked many of the great bands of the time (and some of the not so great as well) including Midnight Oil, The Sports, Mental as Anything, Flowers (Icehouse) and Cold Chisel, just as they were reaching their heights.
The material here covers 1979 and 1980 in particular. Cold Chisel visited Geelong several times over that period, performing at the Waurn Ponds, Collendina and Eureka Hotels. These tours had titles - 1979 being "Set Fire to the Town" and 1980 being "Youth in Asia".
There are more items as part of this package than can be displayed in the gallery of pictures. Here is a brief description of each:
1. Vinyl Album - Breakfast at Sweethearts. Released 1979 on Elektra and distributed by WEA. Serial No 600042. Cover is in good condition, inner sleeve is included. The vinyl is in very good condition and should play well. Songlist: Conversations; Merry-Go-Round; Dresden; Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye); Plaza; Shipping Steel; I'm Gonna Roll Ya; Showtime; Breakfast at Sweethearts; The Door.
2. Vinyl Album - East. Released 1980 on WEA. Serial No 600064. Cover is in reasonable to good condition, inner sleeve is included. The vinyl is in good condition and should play well. NB: The promotional sticker says it includes a bonus single Knockin' on Heaven's Door - this is not included and did not come with the album as received. Songlist: Standing on the Outside; Never Before; Choirgirl; Rising Sun; My Baby; Tomorrow; Cheap Wine; Best Kept Lies; Ita; Star Hotel; Four Walls; My Turn to Cry.
3. Promotional Photographs. These would have been supplied to venue by Cold Chisel's promotor/management. Included:
a. B&W Print of Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss singing. 375 x 350mm
b. 2 x B&W prints of band with title Cold Chisel Australian Artists WEA. 250 x 200mm
c. 3 x B&W prints of John Swan (Swanee) and Jimmy Barnes singing. 250 x 200mm, 195 x 120mm, 175 x 115mm
d. B&W print of Jimmy Barnes singing. 200 x 250mm
All photographic prints are in very good condition
4. Promotional Materials. There is a range of materials included:
a. WEA issued biography, 1979. 4 pages, B&W copy, US Letter size, stapled. Has one notable edit in pen, probably made by local venue. Very good condition.
b. WEA issued biography, 1980. 4 pages, B&W copy on colour letterhead, US Letter size, stapled. Very good condition.
c. WEA issued press release, 1980. 1 page, B&W print on buff paper, Foolscap size, staple mark top left corner. Good condition. Some fray and curl around the edges, but all print is legible. There is a second copy with the letterhead cut off.
d. Set Fire to the Town Tour Booklet. Front & back cover and 6 pages (and a bizarre protective cover around the outside of ads for Good Year Tyres). Contents include venue and tour dates for August and September, 1979; photos and illustrations, Tour Management and Band Management details. Very good condition. 200 x 315mm.
e. Promoter B&W Pamphlet, issued June 1979, single sheet folded. Photos and press clippings as illustration, biographical text. Very good condition. 200 x 315mm. There is a second copy of this that has been cut, probably to create local advertising.
f. 3 x East press material folders. The picture here that does not have the bonus sticker on the front shows one of these folders. The front and back of the folder are printed as per the covers of the album East, including the spine detail, but they open out and have two flaps at the bottom to hold promotional documents.
5. Posters
a. 2 x Promo posters for Limited Edition 12" EP, You're Thirteen, You're Beautiful and Your Mine. B&# on red background. Very good condition (rolled). 750 x 490mm
b. Cold Chisel B&W venue poster with hand written Tonight, Collendina Hotel, Sunday Dec 30th (1979). Interestingly, the bands history on their website has them playing at the Calledonia Hotel Melbourne on that night, but there is no Calledonia Hotel and the the misspelling might indicate that they couldn't exactly remember where they performed that night. Reasonable to good condition - no tears but has been rolled then flattened so it has creases. 700 x 500mm We have a second one of these without the creases and with the date written on it, but it has small tear at the bottom (about 100mm).
That's it - quite a collection. Postage arrangements will be in two packages - one tube with the posters and a flat pack with the other material.
We have a variety of collectables, as well as a large range of rare and interesting items, so have a look at http://howbazaarantiques.com.au
