DESCRIPTION: First, some details about the pressing.  This album was originally released in 1957.  According to Discogs, it was subsequently re-released one year later in 1958.  It appears that the ONLY difference between the 1957 original pressing and the 2nd pressing from 1958 is that the font of "Blue Note Records - 47 West 63rd - NYC" on the label on the B side of the 1958 pressing is in a smaller font.  Everything else is exactly the same -- the runouts, the address for Blue Note Records, the covers, etc.  This pressing still has RVG and the Pastylite "ear" in the runout.  

Now, on to the record itself.  I have ultrasonic cleaned this album and played it in its entirety from the first note to the last.  The LP has some visible hairlines and scuffs, and a couple short, fellable scratches.  The grooves are clean with strong, clear dynamics.  There is an occasional tick, and occasionally a tick that picks up on each revolution for just a few revolutions.  None of these ticks are of the hard, percussive variety that overwhelm the music.  The actual play quality is very strong.  I would say that about half of the A side plays VG+ and more like 60-75% of the B side plays VG+.  While it is not perfect, this is a strong, enjoyable play copy with only intermittent issues. There are certainly no skips and, as stated before, what ticks there are are not pervasive or overwhelming.  The labels are clean, also.

The cover I am conservatively grading VG because there is some discoloration on the back.  The top half of the back cover seems to be a bit darker in shade than the lower half, which may have come from a crate it was stored in where the lower half of the back over was protected from the sun and perhaps the top half was exposed, thus losing some of its vibrancy over time.  The laminate on the front cover is peeling just a tad at the opening.  But the seams are very strong and clean, and there is no writing outside of an "N.R" stamp on the back cover, which I'm presuming came from perhaps the factory.  The lower-left corner of the cover also has a bit of a bump.

This is a really nice, enjoyable copy of this very difficult to find hard bop LP recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at his studios with an incredible supporting cast of Art Blakey on drums, Curly Russell on bass, and Horace Silver on piano.

USED LPs: All used LPs have either already been cleaned on an ultrasonic cleaner or will be ultrasonic cleaned before shipping.  All used LPs are placed in a fresh paper sleeve after being cleaned, and original inner sleeves are placed back inside the cover with the new sleeve if present and if printed (not just plain paper or rice paper).  We will place more expensive records in an audiophile, anti-static inner sleeve instead of paper.  We have, in most cases, play graded LPs before listing but some LPs have been visually graded. We do our absolute best to accurately grade every LP and to grade conservatively for ultimate customer satisfaction.

HOW WE SHIP: All LPs are shipped in a square LP mailer with 2 extra cardboard pads for protection.  All open/used LPs are shipped with the album outside the cover in a poly sleeve to prevent seam splits during transit.  We will open new LPs for this same treatment UPON REQUEST.  All LPs being shipped domestically are done so with USPS Media Mail. Our $5.85 shipping rate is our exact cost of media mail shipping on all LPs weighing less than 2 lbs. packed (most) + an LP mailer and two cardboard pads; we are making no profit on this shipping charge.  All international shipments are sent USPS 1st Class Airmail. We ship out 6 days/week: Monday through Saturday. A tracking number is provided with all domestic shipments. International shipments are sent the customs form number.

[Update May 12th AM] Based on an email from a potential bidder, it has come to my attention that a 2nd pressing of this record may have a couple other variations from the original as well, including the lack of a 'frame cover' (and our copy does lack the frame cover), and a tapered edge as opposed to a flat edge on the vinyl itself.  Our LP has a tapered edge.  This further solidifies our claim that this is a 2nd pressing mono (as stated in the original listing) and not an original. Beyond those differences, all matrix numbers match the original, as well as the address on the label and the back cover.
