Description

I'm selling my personal collection of rare 60s and 70s modern British jazz over the next few weeks. This really was a golden age for British jazz and these are LPs I bought in the 70s and have had ever since. This auction is for Celebration but please see below for the others.

Celebration. The Mike Westbrook Concert Band
Decca Deram SML 1013 Stereo
Composed by Mike Westbrook and John Surman with shades of Ellington and Mingus, this is British jazz at it's very very best. Recorded in 1967, a jazz suite of stunning depth, drive and excitement on this landmark album featuring early work from John Surman. Brooding, menacing but beautiful, it oozes '60s. It would be seriously hard to find better jazz from either side of the Atlantic.

Side 1 - Pastoral, Awakening, Parade, Echoes and Heroics.
Side 2 - A Greeting, Image, Dirge, Portrait.

Mike Westbrook, piano.
John Surman, baritone and soprano sax, bass clarinet.
Mike Osborne, soprano sax.
Malcolm Griffiths, trombone.
Harry Miller, bass.
Alan Jackson, drums.
Dave Holdsworth, trumpet, flugelhorn.
Tom Bennellick, french horn.
Dave Perrottet, valve trombone.
George Smith, tuba.
Dave Chambers, tenor sax, clarinet.
Bernie Living, alto sax, flute.

Sleeve excellent, laminated front clean, no ringwear and no splits. Vinyl excellent minus, has light surface scuffs only, light suface noise only, labels clean with light spindle marks only.
