!! Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band/Mirror Man/1971 Buddah Gatefold LP.
Classic Rock LP Album Artist & Title: Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Mirror Man Catalogue Number: Buddah 2365002 ARE....ORIGINAL 1971 first pressing with the gimmix designed shattered glass effects gatefold cover ... Mirror Man was the 1971 released fifth album by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. It contains material which was recorded in 1967 for Buddah Records, and which was originally intended for release as part of an abandoned project entitled It Comes to You in a Plain Brown Wrapper. Much of the material from this project was subsequently re-recorded and released through a different label as Strictly Personal (1968). The tapes from the original sessions, however, remained under the care of Buddah, who took four of the unissued tunes and released them as Mirror Man in 1971. ............................................... The opening track, "Tarotplane", takes its title after the Robert Johnson song "Terraplane Blues", which was about a popular 1920s car. Throughout "Tarotplane"'s nineteen minutes, Van Vliet quotes lines from Johnson's song as well as from various other blues tunes including Blind Willie Johnson's "You're Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond", Son House's "Grinning in Your Face", and Willie Dixon's "Wang Dang Doodle". The song is built on a single two-chord blues riff, and also features an appearance by Van Vliet on an Indian reed instrument called a shehnai, which was supposedly given to him by Ornette Coleman, and which he plays in a different key from the rest of the band. Also on side one is an eight-minute "Kandy Korn", the second Magic Band tune to reference confectionery, following Safe as Milk's "Abba Zaba". A different, shorter version of this song appears as the closing track on Strictly Personal, where the production buries the later sections of the song under a profusion of backwards cymbals. Here, the track is heard without Strictly Personal producer Krasnow's controversial production effects. The second long 'live' blues jam, "25th Century Quaker", owes its surreal lyrics more to the psychedelic mood of the time, with its references to "blue cheese faces" and "eyes that flutter like a wide-open shutter." Music historian Piero Scaruffi writes, in reference to both this song and "Kandy Korn", "[the lyrics] are surrealistic and intentionally idiotic, a call to infantilism and acid trips in service of a musical theater of the absurd." Around the time the song was recorded the band had been wearing black Quaker coats on stage, and even began to play their live shows as The 25th Century Quakers. The album closes with its fifteen-minute title track, which, like "Kandy Korn", was re-recorded for Strictly Personal, where it appears as "Son of Mirror Man – Mere Man". Another review of the album cites "Mirror Man" as "one of the key tracks of Beefheart's entire career," adding, "Probably the catchiest tune Beefheart ever wrote, "Mirror Man" has an almost funky, hip-swaying groove ............................................... Side one "Tarotplane" – 19:08 "Kandy Korn" – 8:07 Side two "25th Century Quaker" – 9:50 "Mirror Man" – 15:46
Condition of Vinyl: VG+ . There are lots of very, very light mainly hairline surface marks. Remember i am grading my records under a very strong light.  The BUDDHA labels are in great condition. Check photos. Plays great, like an EX, with some very light surface noise here and there. Superb sound..
No jumps or skips.
Condition of Cover: VG+The sleeve is in good condition. See photos!!.  There is a light wear all along the edges and the edges have been painted. There are two small tears in the die cut and there is light wear all around.  Still it is an OK copy. It is all together.

GRADING:

All records are graded using the UK ‘Record Collector’ format:

MINT (M): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

PACKAGING INFORMATION:

LPs and singles will be sent in a record mailing envelope and will be protected by two cardboard stiffeners.
