Current 93's hallucinatory sonic interpretation of Count Eric Stenbock's horrifying and salutary black magic story and moral fable!
David Tibet recorded this music to be read with the short story by Eric Stenbock (1860-1895), one of London's finest writers of 'melancholy and suicidal verse' in the late 19th century. His interpretation of "Faust" - which is included - was written near the end of his brief and troubled life.
Tibet, Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound) and Andria Degens (Pantaleimon) create a 36 minute shifting mass of muttering and drone set to a muffled church bell metronome. The constant chatter of overlapping whispered voices is the focal point ... the unintelligible words, moans, sighs and cries of multitudes seemingly trapped in purgatory. As the piece progresses the cacophony decreases unveiling more layers of singing, howling and the occasional bit of text spoken by a young female. Music sets up a wonderful story wonderfully.
The limited edition LP (1200 copies) 'Edition 1' version of the album comes on striking purple vinyl with:

- a fold out poster signed by Tibet and Stapleton
- a 4-page 12" sized booklet ("Faust" - story by Count Eric Stenbock)
- a Stenbock post card

As with everything released by Current 93, this is a work of art and a labor of love.
