The Purple Knif Show is a highly sought-after, classic Hollywood radio show from July 1984 hosted by Lux Interior of The Cramps. The Purple Knif is in reference and in tribute to Cleveland’s horror TV show host from 1963-’66 and former DJ Ernie (Ghoulardi) Anderson who used to say: “Stay Sick!,” “Cool it with the boom-booms,” and “The whole world is a purple knif” (”knif” being the word “fink” spelled backwards, of course). What works so well on this wonderful DJ mix which runs the gamut from raw ’60s punk, garage, and rockabilly, to Polynesian jungle rhythms and jazz themes is that Lux has picked some great music and DJs in an appropriate, heavily reverbed DJ’s voice. This not only enhances the whole thing perfectly, but also helps to take us back to the era of the early rock’n'roll DJ personality. Lux did a wonderful job DJing this set of music which no doubt inspired The Cramps. He was certainly ahead of his time in regard to how a lot of what he played on radio back in 1984 went on to be compiled in our age of the compilation.

GRADING:

Grading is done visually and with playing. Vinyl grading is based on the Goldmine Trade Magazine standard and is as follows:

M: Mint. No used record will be considered mint.

NM:  Is the highest grading.  Record should look unplayed, shiny, glossy, no visible marks. NM covers have no creases, ring wear or seam splits of any kind.

VG+:  Record may have a few minor marks or surface scuffs. A good description of a VG+ Record is “except for a couple of minor things, this would be Near Mint.” Covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking.

VG:  Record will have light scratches, noticable marks, and surface noise may be apparent. VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail.

VG-/G:  Record is rough and may be beat up a little bit. It has significant surface noise and groove wear. The label is worn and exhibits significant ring wear, heavy writing or obvious damage caused by trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably.

A Good to VG- cover has ring wear to the point of distraction, has seam splits obvious on sight and may have even heavier writing, such as huge radio station letters written across the front to deter theft.

SHIPPING:

All 12” records will be shipped in sturdy cardboard mailers within 3 business days of confirmed payment. The discs will be placed in their dust sleeves outside the cover to prevent seam split damage. Additional padding will ensure that your record does not slide around during transit.
