* Rare English Version *
Following the premature death of Frank Dervieux (one of Quebec's founding fathers of progressive rock ...who released the groundbreaking "Dimension M"), his bandmates re-christened themselves Contraction, and continued in the same direction........recording two progressive gems.
Contraction recorded this, their first solo project in two versions......the more common (though still tough-to-find) French version, and this limited-pressing English version (reportedly, less than 1000 copies pressed), with different track titles & lyrics and slightly different arrangements.
Intended for the English market, distribution and sales outside of Quebec were, not surprisingly, non-existant.
* While the French version of their debut was re-issued on CD in 2005 by Prog Quebec, this English version is not likely to receive the same treatment any time soon, relagating it perhaps to eternal obscurity.
Still noticeably influenced by Franck Dervieux (who though very ill, appears on this debut LP.......* he didn't live to hear it's completion), this debut is lighter than their second release. Quieter, pastoral and symphonic (à la Renaissance or Fairport Convention) with beautiful haunting vocals courtesy of Christine Robichaud.......yet still with sizzling guitar solos, driving bass lines and great percussion.
Yves Laferriere (bass), Robert Lachapelle (piano, synthesizers), Christiane Robichaud (flute & vocals), Robert Stanley (electric guitars), Rawn Bankley (acoustic guitar), Marcel Huot, Christian St.Roch & Denis Farmer on drums, Michel Seguin (congas, percussion), and Franck Dervieux (organ).
