If there was any proof the 1990s heralded a period of fascinating cross-disciplinary pollination, then the wipE'out franchise might be it. Or at least it's one piece of glaring evidence among many. While the second instalment of the futuristic PlayStation racing game - wipE'out 2097 - is perhaps the best remembered in terms of smooth play and soundtrack (the likes of Sasha and Future Sound of London were licensed), the original title, and its original score, may have stood the test of time better. Incredible, peak-UK rave era sounds that could just as easily score a fast-paced two-player head-to-head as a warehouse party, on this very special edition vinyl outing we hear that would happen if that happened now. Insanely good remixes from the likes of Tim Reaper, Mantra, New Science, NikNak and SHERELLE join the dots between on screen and underground hardcore, dnb and jungle, while others (Drunken Auslander, Bobbing Boat, WSTWGBE) opt for lower BPM chug interpretations.
