CHUCK BERRY :

AFTER SCHOOL SESSION

DETAILS :  1958 ~ CHESS LP 1426 ~ Original First Issue
High Fidelity (Mono) ~ Black Labels ~ Chuck Berry's Debut LP

VINYL : VG+ : Thick, inflexible vinyl. Black and shiny. Several small, light surface marks. Very sharp labels suggest this record was not played often.
Note: LP is close to a visual EX grade.

COVER : VG+ : 3 inch center split on top seam. 3.5 inch split on bottom seam at opening edge. Spine intact and legible. Minor shelf wear, ring wear and yellowing mostly on back. Not in bad shape, still a collectible piece of rock and roll history.

INNER SLEEVE : White paper, die-cut sleeve.

LABELS : Slight wear near center holes, otherwise very sharp. Deep grooves.

BEAR'S NOTES : Actual original first Mono issue on Chuck Berry's debut 12" LP. Contains 12 classics ("School Day", "No Money Down", "Too Much Monkey Business", "Brown Eyed Handsome Man", etc). This music always sounds best in Mono!

A SIMPLE VINYL GRADING SYSTEM :

Mint (M): Still Sealed/Unplayed/Unopened/Holy Grail
Mint minus (M-): New and Possibly Unplayed ; a rarely used grade.
Near Mint (NM): Like-new, with little or no visible wear; very collectible.

Near Mint minus (NM-):
Almost like-new, with very slight signs of age, play or wear that are strictly cosmetic.

Excellent (EX) aka Very Good double-plus (VG++):
Way above average, no serious flaws; seldom spun, very clean, possible slight noise.

Very Good plus (VG+):
An above average used LP; a few visible surface marks/paper scuffs; minor surface noise.

Very Good (VG) :
An average used LP, far from perfect but not in bad shape; a few light scratches.
Possibly a bit noisy (inc. pops, clicks); plays through with no skips. Well-spun.

Very Good minus (VG-) :
Reveals lots of wear/noise when viewed or played but is not defective or warped.
 
Note : Lesser grades (Good, Fair, Poor) are rarely used in a bearswaxrecords listing.

LP Cover grading is a much less exact, even more subjective science. Generally, the truly collectible grades range from Mint to Excellent (but VG+ is fine). The grade depends on defects & wear. Main cover flaws such as split seams or spine splits, ring wear, cut or bent corners, hole punches, shelf wear, writing, water damage, discoloration etc. should always be mentioned in a proper auction listing. These factors or the lack thereof will combine to determine the overall grade. Your item will be packaged with tender loving care. Records are always removed from jackets for shipping & are securely packed in nice new inner sleeves & polysleeves & then packed inside thick cardboard album mailers along with stiff cardboard inserts & sheets of bubble wrap to help provide a safe delivery.

Records are always professionally sight-graded, occasionally play-graded. Please keep in mind that used LPs, especially those from the '50s & '60s, are very rarely found in actual Mint condition, seldom in true Near Mint. Proper record grading involves skill, knowledge & honesty, not wishful thinking. All grading is subjective. Play grading on request.
