Description
CHRISTMAS SEALS CAMPAIGN 1969 -- Various Artists -- hard to find, original 1969 U.S. album, DJ-only promo copy. This is one in a series of rare public service/promo albums issued by the Christmas Seals charity. Side A features songs and spoken word segments by Gary Lewis & The Playboys; songs include "This Diamond Ring," "Dream Lover," "Sloop John B," "Sealed With a Kiss" and "The Night Has 1,000 Eyes." Side B features short spoken word PSA announcements by 26 famous comedians, singers and celebrities including William Shatner of "Star Trek" fame (who somehow manages to mis-pronounce both "tuberculosis" and "respiratory" in his PSA!), Carol Burnett, David Janssen, Jonathan Winters, the Smothers Bros., Mel Torme, Sally Field, Joanie Sommers, Joey Bishop and others (see photo for full list.) Announcements on Side B on banded for radio play (you have to lift the needle for each announcement), but Side A isn't. These records were never sold commercially to the public. Does not come up for sale often. Cover: VG+, ring wear, wear at corners, light stain on back cover middle right. Record: Near Mint-, on Decca Custom Records label, U.S. pressing.
