CHRIS SMITH -- Why Do You Look At Me Like That When I Look At You / Society - ex. rare, original 1999 U.S. 45 single. For Modern Soul / R&B fans, this is an excellent and completely unknown Private Press 45 out of Dallas, Texas credited to Chris Smith. A-side "Why Do You Look At Me Like That ..." has fantastic uptempo beat and urgent, pleading "I wanna take you home" vocals, then halfway through literally erupts into a volcanic, Jimi Hendrix-style fuzz guitar break, totally outtasight. B-side "Society" is wild, unexpected excursion into R&B / Electronic territory with disembodied sung-spoken vocals by Smith interwoven with avant garde Electronica beat, freaky stuff. A-side notes that there's a "forthcoming album called Zoot Suit," but this was apparently never released, and this seems to be the only record put out by Chris Smith on his own private press Society Records label. Also note black marker on both sides of label, apparently erasing a collaborator's name -- so this may have originally been credited to Chris Smith + [unknown person]. In any case, this one is completely off the radar: there's no information on it anywhere, and this seems to be the only copy that's ever surfaced, so get it while you can. In generic sleeve.
