  • ?This is a rather strange piece of wax. This is the only record that got released on the Motown sublabel Weed. There's also a really good story behind this record.
    When Marvin Gaye and his musicians had recorded most of the What's Going On album Berry Gordy said that they wouldn't release it because it wasn't commercial enough. The result was that Marvin and the fellows locked themselves up in the recording studio and since Motown's recording style was the "assembly line" style, it wasn't the best solution for the hit-recording company so they gave in at last.
    During that time though in the studio (the snake pit), while smoking a lot of weed, the musicians and Marvin recorded this album with Chris Clark and secretely released it on the sublabel Weed.
    How much of this is true I don't know, but this is the version that I heard, and I like it.
    Anyway, the record is nice and smooth and Chris Clark reminds of a young Dusty Springfield, so it's rather different listening to hear her on this album instead of her uptempo hits.There's a couple of strong songs here like "One" and a good version of "With A Little Help From My Friends".

All records are carefully graded. In an attempt to give customers an accurate impression of condition rather than adhere to somewhat arbitrary criteria, I give an "overall presentation" grade, supplemented when necessary with additional remarks (which is more often than not). GRADING DESCRIPTIONS

Records:

• Sealed:  still factory sealed….any defects will be noted
• Mint: Like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects
• Near Mint/M-:  Extremely nice….generally any defects will be superficial and will be detailed
• VG++:  Still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like
• VG+: A nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a some pops
• VG: A well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, and even a possible skip.
• VG-: A very well-worn record that plays through, probably has skipping and snap, crackle, pop
• Good: Probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, skips etc.
• Fair: You’re getting this record just to own – generally listed due to rarity regardless of condition
• Poor: The sky’s the limit as far as condition in the negative sense – generally listed due to rarity regardless of condition

COVERS:

There are really too many possible defects regarding covers to be as specific in my definitions as I had been with my record grades. But please keep in mind these general grading guidelines as I will use the above grading format with general specific comments as to condition, etc.
