Original 1972 U.K. first issue stereo pressing released on the Deram label SDL 8. 

Description :

Very rare and hard to find prog classic released on the light brown Deram label exclusive to the first issue pressings. Subsequent pressings were released on the standard red Deram label.

Following the dissolution of their former band, Wilde Flowers, David Sinclair, Richard Sinclair, Pye Hastings and Richard Coughlan formed Caravan in 1968. The band became the first British act to sign for American record label, Verve, who subsequently released the band's debut LP, Caravan, later the same year. After this Verve closed their rock and pop division, causing Caravan to move to Decca Records for the release of If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You in 1970, from which the title track gained the band an appearance on Top Of The Pops, and then Deram (Decca's progressive subsidiary) for 1971's In the Land of Grey and Pink. After the third album's release David Sinclair chose to leave the group, to be replaced by Steve Miller. The change in keyboardist caused a change in musical direction, and the band's next album, Waterloo Lily, was distinctly more jazz influenced than earlier work. This caused some unrest for followers of the group and the band disintegrated soon after Waterloo Lily's release, leaving just Hastings and Coughlan. The duo recruited viola player Geoffrey Richardson, bassist Stu Evans and keyboardist Derek Austin and toured extensively. This line-up did not make any recordings before Evans was replaced by John Perry and Dave Sinclair rejoined the group in 1973. The resulting album For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night was well-received critically.

The vinyl is in super clean EXCELLENT condition with just the faintest of wear and plays superbly throughout.

The gatefold sleeve is in EXCELLENT shape with just very light overall wear but no splits, tears or writing. 

Condition ~ Labels :

Both light brown Deram labels are nice and clean showing some spindle wear.

Original 1970 U.K. pressing released on the pink Island label ILPS 9125. 

Description :

Very rare and hard to find folk rock classic.

Fotheringay was a short-lived British folk rock group formed in 1970 by singer Sandy Denny on her departure from Fairport Convention. The band drew its name from her composition Fotheringay about Fotheringhay Castle, in which Mary, Queen of Scots had been imprisoned. The song originally appeared on the 1969 Fairport Convention album, What We Did on Our Holidays, Denny's first album with that group.

Two former members of Eclection, Trevor Lucas and Gerry Conway, and two former members of Poet and the One Man Band, Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson (bass), completed the line-up responsible for what was long assumed to be the quintet's only album. This folk-based set included several Denny originals, notably "Nothing More", "The Sea" and "The Pond and The Stream", as well as versions of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Way I Feel" and Bob Dylan's "Too Much of Nothing". During the year of its original release, the album failed to match commercial expectations, and pressures on Denny to undertake a solo career, she was voted Britain's number 1 singer (two years consecutively) in Melody Maker's readers poll, increased.

Fotheringay disbanded in January 1971 during sessions for a projected second album. Some of its songs surfaced on Denny's 1971 debut album, The North Star Grassman and the Ravens.

The vinyl is in absolutely superb NEAR MINT condition. Virtually pristine and plays superbly throughout.
