CANADIAN ROGUES
Florida garage band!
Like many garage bands, the Lakeland, Florida based group The Canadian Rogues played under a variety of names before finding the magic in 1965. They started out in ’63 as the Echoes, then were the Playboys and the Maniacs.
In the summer of ’65 they changed personel again, and a new name too – The Rogues. It was after the British Invasion was really starting pinch American bands that they decided to become foreign too – and added ‘Canadian’ to their name – despite the fact that they were from Florida, and had never even been to Canada.
In 1966 they went to Atlanta to record and cut six sides including this pair “Keep In Touch” and “Oop-poop-a-doop.” That topside is a good little original, and the flip is the familiar garage band classic that everyone was doing. Great guitar break on this one. This pairing got two releases, one on the Texas based, Charay Records, and again on Detroit's Palmer label.
