Description
Two of Booker Ervin's best albums ever, issued together in one 2LP set with great notes by Stanley Crouch, and an extra track that was issued elsewhere! The group on all sides features Ervin with Jaki Byard piano, Richard Davis bass, and Alan Dawson drums -- and the longish tracks are some of the most modernist work that Ervin ever cut on his own. Recorded relatively early in the 60s, the tunes show that Ervin had a lot of room to develop -- and far more far-reaching ideas than might be expected from his sometimes too-Texas pegged tenor. Titles include "Number Two", "A Lunar Tune", "A Day To Mourn", "Grant's Stand", and "Al's In". Wonderful all around!
