 About Ring O’Records

As early as 1970, Ringo had involvement with a production company, Beachport Company Ltd. (in fact, most of the Ring O’Records releases feature this name). On July 26, 1973, Ringo started a new music publishing company, Wobble Music Ltd. However, his own compositions were published by two other Ringo-owned companies, Startling Music Inc. and Richoroony Ltd. Ringo purchased Tittenhurst Park, John and Yoko’s old estate, on September 18,1973 and immediately re-christened the in-house studio as Startling Studios.

With Apple Records not being fun anymore and virtually little product being released, George formed Dark Horse Records on May 23, 1974. Hot on George’s heels, on June 28, 1974, Ringo started a company called Reckongrade. By December 11, Ringo changed the name to Pyramid Records. On April 4, 1975, Ringo officially declared that Ring O’Records was open for business, even though one single and an album had already been released. Just to add more confusion to the paper trail, the Ring O’ name and logo were trademarks of another Ringo company, Wibble Records.

Ring O’ Records actually signed artists and produced records. However, Ringo was not an active participant in the company, nor was he signed to the label. Over a three-year period, seven albums, and 17 singles were released.

Finding these releases can be quite difficult. The luckiest collectors will be those in Europe, where most of the records were released.

About Bobby Keys

Bobby Keys was born on December 18, 1943, in Slaton, Texas. He is probably the best known saxophone player in all of rock and roll. Bobby started touring at age fourteen with Bobby Vee and fellow Texan Buddy Holly. He has played on hundreds of recordings, including many uncredited performances such as on Dion's "The Wanderer." He played the saxophone solo on the Rolling Stones’ 1971 hit "Brown Sugar." He is also featured in the 1971 concert movie Mad Dogs And Englishmen narrating the story of his early life while driving around downtown Dallas. Another famous recording by Keys is the baritone saxophone on Elvis Presley's "Return To Sender" and John Lennon's only American solo #1 single hit "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night".

Although he is known as a session musician, Bobby Keys released two albums of his own in the 1970s; a 1972 self-titled instrumental album on Warner Bros that featured Ringo, George and Eric Clapton, and Gimme the Key on Ringo's Ring O'Records in 1975.

This auction is for the Ring O’Records UK 45, “Gimme The Key”  backed with “Honky Tonk.”. The record is in Very Good condition, with some scuffing on the labels. Surprisingly, the vinyl is in better shape than the labels, being glossy without any visible scratches. The original Ring O'Records sleeve is in Good-Very Good condition, with winkling with the pencil notation on the upper right back "Funky Disco Soul Instrumental like AWB's "Cut The Cake".
