Description
Excellent, Low-Number U.S. Beatles White Album
This is a very fine, reasonably low-number example of the original U.S. pressing of the Beatles’ legendary “White Album”, Apple SWBO-101 bearing number A 0341428. It is complete with pictures and poster, in excellent condition.
Sleeve:- Clean & lovely overall. Very white; no dirt or smudges, with just a hint of disc impression when viewed under raking light.
- Some very light brown spotting here & there, much of it only apparent under bright light. A handful on the exterior faces, a few more on the interior, mostly near the edges.
- A couple of small, very shallow depression marks in the front slick; a couple more pronounced ones on the back face.
- Number A 0341428, amongst the first 11% (or so) of U.S. numbered copies.
- Spine is solid with only light wear, generally along the back fold (this shows as discoloration in the picture, which accentuates it somewhat). Text is plainly visible.
- Inside bears “SWBO 101” text only (no Apple copyright). Center fold slick is unbroken.
- Top front seam was open, but has been very neatly and solidly repaired; likewise for 2” separation of bottom front. Back seams are intact. All show only minor shelf wear.
- Opening edges are sharp and unfeathered. Corners have minor wear but no significant bumping.
- An excellent cover!
Vinyl Visually (viewed under a high-intensity lamp):
- Clean & lovely 1st-press labels (Capitol logo on sliced-apple sides).
- Proper titles for relevant Disc 1 tracks (Cont’g Story of Bungalow Bill, Ob-la-di).
- Incorrect titles for Disc 2 tracks (Revolution No. 1/9, Goodnight).
- No writing or detractions other than spindle marks, mostly on Disc 1.
- Disc 1 vinyl appears VG for hairlines and a handful of light scuffs.
- Disc 2 is much nicer – a lovely NM.
Critical Vinyl Play-grade (through headphones):
- Music itself is clear, bright, and undistorted.
- Side 1 audio is better than visual grade; easy VG+ with only light background noise. - Side 2 audio is VG for slightly more pronounced surface noise. No significant groovewear, skips or major pops.
- Being very picky, Side 3 plays just shy of NM for the merest smattering of noise, audible only during the quiet tracks, and a light click at the very end.
- Side 4 plays a wonderful NM – excellent!
Poster & Pics:
- Poster is outstanding; clearly handled only a few times, and with care. Folds are solid with minimal wear. No pinholes, tape stains or brown-spotting; even the lyric side is unusually white.
- Three of the 4 Beatle pics are excellent. John, Paul & Ringo are heavy-stock prints; George is lighter stock from a later press. Paul’s print suffers from some bends, scratches & top-border pinholes, but is still quite presentable. Colors for all are rich & vibrant.
