“MAGIC CHRISTIAN MUSIC” LP by Badfinger
-
This LP is Apple Records ST - 3364.
-
This stereo LP was released February 16, 1970.
-
Badfinger was the first act signed to The Beatles’ New Apple Records Label. The Welsh band was originally named The Iveys and changed its name to Badfinger.
-
This was BADFINGER’s PREMIER LP that contained their hit “COME AND GET IT” written by Paul McCartney.
-
Other notable cuts on this LP are “Carry On Till Tomorrow” and “Rock Of Ages”. These cuts, along with “Come And Get It”, were in the Motion Picture “The Magic Christian” starring Peter Sellers, Ringo Starr, and Raquel Welch.
-
Badfinger was referred to by George Harrison as “the Apple House Band” when they performed with him at the Concert for Bangladesh benefit concert along with Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Ravi Shankar and Leon Russell.
-
This was the first of four LPs that Badfinger released on the Apple Records label: “MAGIC CHRISTIAN MUSIC”, “NO DICE”, “STRAIGHT UP” and “ASS”.
-
THE COVER is in NEAR MINT CONDITION and STILL in its ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP. The shrink wrap is nice and tight and has “breathe holes”. There is a 2 ½ -inch tear in the shrink wrap at the lower right corner.
-
The shrink wrap has the UNCOMMON RECTANGULAR ORANGE STICKER with BLACK PRINTING that was adhered to some copies of the LP’s shrink wrap. It has the LP catalog number, ST 3364, and the printing: CONTAINS THE HIT “COME AND GET IT”. (This is only the second copy of this LP I’ve ever had with this orange sticker on the shrink wrap.)
-
The VINYL is in VERY STRONG VG+ to NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) CONDITION with just several very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs (none at all “feel-able”).
-
This LP has the UNCOMMON APPLE LABELS with the CAPITOL LOGO in the perimeter print on the sliced-Apple label. The perimeter print reads:
“MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC., A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC.”
-
There are two Apple label variations produced for this LP: the one in this auction with the Capitol logo in the perimeter print and “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS, INC.”in the perimeter print. Both variations were issued February 16, 1970, but the MAJORITY of the copies of this LP were issued with “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS, INC.”.
A VERY NICE COPY of this UNCOMMON PRESSING of “MAGIC CHRISTIAN MUSIC” with the CAPITOL LOGO in the perimeter print on the APPLE LABELS AND with the ORANGE STICKER on the shrink wrap for someone’s Beatles or Vinyl Collection!
