Beatles-Related 45 Remo Four In the First Place SCARCE Vinyl Issue, NM!

I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

An unintentional collector’s item, this track saw a vinyl and a CD release way back in 1998.  But because the dominant format at the time was CD, hardly any copies on vinyl had sold.  Even today, if you search this recording on eBay, you will likely only see the CD issue.

This track has a very rich and interesting history.  Just a few points on this one:

*George decided to capitalize on Noel Gallagher capitalizing on George by reissuing his Wonderwall album and video for its 30th anniversary.

*Going through his archives, George unearthed this track, which he’d forgotten about, and didn’t recognize.  But he did see that he produced and played on it.

*His notes indicated that this was to be the movie’s theme song, and that he’d decided against it, because it seemed out of place with the movie’s plot, as well as his own soundtrack.

*I remember that the critics kept comparing it to “Blue Jay Way,” for some reason.  It was recorded in 1967, with George’s 1967 sensibilities for sure, so it does have that sort of trippy atmosphere.

*But to my ears, for those of us who are fans of the almost-Apple band Grapefruit, this track sounds to me like an outtake from their first album, superimposed on an outtake from George’s Wonderwall soundtrack.

*George didn’t take any money from this release.  One of the song’s writers, Colin Manley had been diagnosed with cancer, and George insisted that he take the money to pay for treatments.  It didn’t work, as Colin died a few months after the song was released.

*In any case, the vinyl pressing of “In the First Place” ended up not selling nearly as many units as the CD did. 

*And now, it’s very hard to find on vinyl.

Vinyl: NM/NM.  Looks unplayed, because it is.

Plates: A1/B1.  As one would imagine, since there was no second issue.

Labels: NM/NM.

Sleeve: NM/NM.  No paper inner sleeve was provided with this issue, so I’ve provided one.

Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
