Description

Here’s an extremely rare Beatles 45! This is the “Please Please Me”/”Ask Me Why” single on the Vee Jay label, number VJ498. If you discount an anonymous credit on a Tony Sheridan record, this is the first Beatles record ever released in the US. There were numerous label variations made of this single. This is the sixth and final variation… also one of the rarest, featuring the color band with VJ brackets logo. It is noted that only 1,650 copies of this variation were ever produced. I wonder how many have survived. This copy is in strong VG+ condition. I’m tempted to throw a VG++ out there, but I know how retentive Beatles collectors can be. Basically there is some very light sleeve scuffing, and that’s about it… I don’t see any scratches on the record. The labels are clean and free of stickers, writing or other problems. The record plays well with some light static. It comes with the original (and correct for this particular early 1964 variation) “Singles of Significance” Veejay sleeve. This is a tough one to find!!
