Description

Beatles 45 "PLEASE PLEASE ME / ASK ME WHY".  VJ 498 issued in the spring of 1963.
Vee Jay OVAL Label with "BEATLES" spelled with 1-T. Comes with it's original stock Vee Jay  Sleeve #VJ RS.01 (in NM Condition).
The Vinyl surface appears to be CLEAN to the naked eye.  Minor surface issues rating around VG+. No serious issues.  Although the labels show some wear (see photos) in the black area and also around the edge where the rainbow colors are, the piece is still quite a rare find.  We try to be as up front and honest as we can when evaluating the condition of any record, but keep in mind that this auction is all about THE rarist and most famous 45 in the collectors market.
In Bruce Spizer's book "BEATLES RECORDS ON VEE JAY" on Page 9, this particular version is shown as VJ 498.05. This OVAL label has the INITIAL corrected spelling in thick print. "THE BEATLES" is properly centered below the title.  The markings in the trail off areas (69-2967 and 2968 plus hand etched job number 46527 preceded by a small triangle) are identical to those of VJ 498.02 (with "THE BEATTLES" spelled with 2-Ts). Both were pressed by MONARCH with the same stampers. Vee Jay  distributor invoices document that MONARCH shipped a total of only 1,565 copies of VJ 498 to FIELD MUSIC SALES during March and April of 1963.  It is not known how many of these had corrected labels, thereby making this quite rare on its own.  (Comes with sleeve VJ RS.01 which is MINT).
Experts state that at this point in time, all VJ 498 versions have equal value and all are equally RARE.  The 2-TTs vs. those with only 1-T!  There is not much difference in value. In fact, this particular version is rare in it's own right because of it being the first LABEL CORRECTION of the spelling of "THE BEATLES".
Considering the extremely limited distribution of any version of this record, adding any to one's collection is a major coup. Just locating any VJ 498 these days after 50 years is indeed SPECIAL! This is an absolute must for any BEATLES record collection.  The value here is obviously due to the RARITY and SCARCITY of the item.
Extremely sought after and highly collectible.  No doubt the "HOLY GRAIL" of all BEATLE 45s!
