THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK '2nd' BLACK & GOLD LABELS MONO LP
**'NORTHERN SONGS' FACTORY SAMPLE**
This superb 1963 mono '2nd' pressing is on the UK black & gold Parlophone label: PMC 1202
The labels have the correct 'Northern Songs' publishing credits for songs: 1 & 2 on side 1 and 4 & 6 on side 2.
Side 1 carries a genuine pointed-ended 'Factory Sample' sticker.
The side 2 label also bears a distinctive 'groove' around it 8mm from its edge.
There is no tax/price code visible on either label.
Housed in a front laminated, tri-flipback 'E.J. Day' printed mono cover.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 1/T & 1/H

Both surfaces are extremely clean, bright & glossy with just a hint of groove-whitening to the innermost tracks but no major faults.
Viewed directly in strong daylight I can see just a single 2cm hairline scratch on side 1 but no other significant blemishes on either side.
Close inspection beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals nothing more than a few wispy paper hairlines but no other marks or scratches anywhere.
100% flat on both sides with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: EXCELLENT MINUS
Bright, clean & powerful sound with no major deterioration to the overall sound quality overall.
Apart from some minor minor groovewear to 'Please, Please Me' and the final few tracks on side 2, there are no significant audible faults.
Both run-ins & all bands play extremely quietly and there are no jumps, repeats anywhere.
Cover: VERY GOOD
A clean front panel with an undamaged laminate bearing just a few light wrinkles to the edges but no 'thumbnail' creases or any major wear.
A small piece of clear tape has been applied to the lower right corner but the others are clean with minimal storage wear.
There is some light wear to the opening edges with a few tiny pieces of missing laminate to the front edge.
The rear panel is clean with minor storage wear and a tiny (4mm) set of initials in the extreme upper left corner.
All delicate flipbacks are in-place and both the seams & the spine are clean & unsplit.
All discs are carefully play graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck with an Ortofon Kontrapunkt 'A' cartridge.
