Description

THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'

This EXCELLENT copy of their debut album is a true UK 1st mono pressing dating from initial release in March 1963 and is on the first gold & black Parlophone label: PMC 1202

The label bears the incorrect 'Dick James..' publishing credit for tracks 1 & 2 on side 1 and tracks 4 & 6 on side 2.

An 'MT' purchase tax code is visible around the centre of the side 1 label.

Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N

Stamper codes: 1/GR & 1/T

Disc weight: 167g

The disc is housed within its correct front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed large mono logo cover with the 'Angus McBean credit in the extreme lower right corner.

This copy comes complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT +

A beautiful, clean & bright set with no wear or damage to any of the delicate gold print or a single spindle mark in sight.

Visual: EXCELLENT

Both playing surfaces are extremely clean and retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss shine with no clouding or dull patches from incorrect storage or groove whitening from overplay on poor equipment. In fact, apart from a single light, non-feelable mark on track 3 of side 1, there is little of any significance to report in strong daylight. Close examination directly beneath my powerful and unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals little more than a handful of light surface marks per side, but nothing I would term a scratch. A sparkling rainbow gloss is also present together with a small number of insignificant wispy paper hairlines. Both sides of this well-looked after copy lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Play: EXCELLENT

Unlike most copies this example has received only minimal careful play and as a result, there is no significant deterioration to the sound quality throughout. My single careful playcheck found no wear at all on the most often played opening track and no groovewear on any other side 1. I did detect a hint of background on 'Anna' but nothing too distracting. Side 2s plays just as well with the only sign of wear being some minor playwear on 'Twist & Shout'. There were certainly no clicks, pops or any other audible distractions or major faults anywhere. Tough to find in this condition.

Cover: EXCELLENT

This clean, strong and correct example has been carefully stored in a non-smoking environment and displays only light signs of wear and no major faults. The front panel is clean & bright with a undamaged high-gloss laminate which bears just a few wrinkles along the lower edge but no storage rubbing or any 'thumbnails'. There is light shelfwear rubbing to the lower corners and some wear to the upper left and just a few small 'pushes' to the front opening edge. The rear panel is extremely clean & white with just a few tiny age-related blemishes but certainly no marks or wear of any significant whatsoever. There is some repaired wear to the upper flipback edges but all others are 'as new'. Both seams and the fully worded spine are smooth &, unstressed with no flaking or missing laminate.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT +

A superb example with just a few gentle storage bends and some indentations along the lower edge from the factory stacking machine along the lower edge.
