Description
THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'/'ASK ME WHY'
This fine 1st UK pressing of their 2nd single dates from initial January 1963 release on the red & silver Parlophone label: 45-R 4983
An 'MPT' purchase tax code is visible around centre of the 'Ask Me Why' label & in both run-outs.
Both labels include the 'Made In Gt. Britain' text.
Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17217-1N & 7XCE 17218-1N
Stamper codes: 2/GR & 1/M
The disc is housed within the first variant of the green & white Parlophone company sleeve which has a misprint on the rear panel which reads: '(...Electric & Musical Instruments Ltd)'. It should be, and was quickly corrected to '(...Electric & Musical Industries Ltd)'.

Labels: EXCELLENT +
An outstanding clean & vibrant set with just a single spindle trail to the 'Please, Please Me' centre hole and just a handful on 'Ask My Why'. As you can see, both are free from any writing, stickers or missing paper.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Extremely clean playing surfaces which retain their factory shine with no significant surface marks or wear in strong daylight. Closer examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals some harmless wispy hairlines, but nothing I would call a scratch. Both sides of this fine copy lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT
This superb sounding disc plays with a warmth & power missing from the LP version. This copy has received very little play and my single careful playcheck found no significant deterioration to the sound quality on either side. In fact, apart from a few soft ticks at the beginning of 'Ask Me Why', there really is little to fault overall and much much more to enjoy.
Cover: VERY GOOD
General light storage wear with no writing, tears or seam splits.
