Description
This is a rare 1963 UK 3rd STEREO pressing on the black and yellow Parlophone label PCS 3042.
Both labels omit the 'Sold in the UK...' & Recording First Published...' texts
The rims around each label begin 'The Parlophone Co Ltd'
The KT tax code is visible on the side 1 label.
Matrix Numbers: YEX 94-1 & YEX 95-1
Stamper numbers 1/P and 1/G - signifying it is one of the first few hundred copies pressed.
Housed in a the correct front laminated flipback EJ Day sleeve with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner and the large "Stereo" in the top right corner.
These pressings were issued when Parlophone first changed from the black and gold to the black and yellow label design, which was only about a month after the initial release on the black and gold label.
This first black and yellow pressing omitted both the 'recording first published' and 'sold in the UK' texts and was quickly withdrawn after about a week and replaced with the more common fourth pressing.
This edition of the record is extremely scarce, some say it was pressed in fewer numbers than the more famous black and gold label pressing, which would probably be right if it was only produced for a week or so.
Unusually for Beatles records this copy has hardly been played, I would grade it at EX condition, it retains its original shine and would be mint except for a very few very light scratches or sleeve marks which can only be seen when held up to a light. The record plays perfectly with virtually no crackles or surface noise. As the record has hardly been played there is no deterioration in sound quality due to stylus wear.
The sleeve grades at VG, having normal wear for a record 45 years old, as you can see from the picture it is entirely intact with no marks or writing, the spine is sound with no splitting, the artist and lp name can be clearly read. You can see a slight scuff though on the top left and a very slight one on the bottom right. The flipback has a couple of scuffs on the back of the sleeve, which is unmarked apart from that.
The record comes in the original 'Use Emitex' inner sleeve
Overall an excellent example of this LP. You will be hard pressed to find a better one.
