THE BEATLES - 'LOVE ME DO'/'P.S. I LOVE YOU'
UK 1962 1st PRESSING 45
This early example is a UK 1962 1st pressing of The Beatles' debut 45 on the red & silver Parlophone label: 45-R4949
Both labels carry 'Ardmore & Beechwood' publishing credits for both songs & the 'Made in Gt. Britain' text.
'ZWOT' purchase tax codes is visible in the centre of the 'P.S. I Love You' label.
The 'B' side label also bears an additional 'MT' purchase tax sticker.
'ZT' codes are stamped in both run-outs.
Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17144-1N & 7XCE 17145-1N
Stamper codes: 1/P & -/JR
The 'JR' code denote it was pressed from the earliest possible stampers, usually only seen on demo copies.
This disc is housed within an original 'coloured diamonds' Parlophone company cover.
CONDITION
Labels: EXCELLENT
Both are very clean & bright with just a handful of light spindle marks and slight wear to each centre hole. There is no writing or missing paper anywhere.
Visual: VERY GOOD +
Both playing surfaces are clean & glossy with a few light surface marks in strong daylight, but no significant wear or anything I would call a scratch. Careful inspection beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals a number of harmless wispy hairlines consistent with play, but certainly nothing serious.
Play: VERY GOOD
This copy has received a fair amount of play and some light background crackle is evident throughout. However, the sound remains powerful and undistorted with no heavy clicks, pops or any other major audible faults to either song.
Cover
VERY GOOD +
Clean & bright with minor wear along the upper edge, but no writing, seam splits or tears.
