What we have here is a very rare item.back in 1962 if EMI didn’t think there would be much demand for a single they would produce stock copies from the demo stampers as no other metal work would be required.
This copy was almost certainly a release day copy 5/10/62 as it has the very earliest labels for this single
A little bit about about stamper codes.
In the 1950s and 60s EMI used the codes for the word GRAMOPHONE LTD for their production stampers G=1 R=2 A=3 M=4 O=5 P=6 H=7 L=8 T=0 D=0.
When they produced demos they used stampers that didn’t follow the regular code they had pre production stamper these more often than not had a JR some say this is journalists review but who knows.
It’s fairly well accepted that 250 red and white demos for love me do where produced (although I think this figure is rather high).
As I’ve said it has the demo stampers JR side one and JR side two this is a very unusual and rare combination, most copies with demo stamps only have the JR for the “B” side these are always P1/JR and G1/JR as I’ve made a bit of a study of this I would say these are reasonably common as I have multiple copies of P1/JR and G1/JR at present about seven in total.
Condition.
These rare labels sadly have graffiti on both sides(see photos) there is no paper loss or sticker residue.
The vinyl
I would grade the playing surface on both sides as VG a few marks nothing drastic.
Audio
The record plays well,a little background noise no sticks.plays through no problem.
In conclusion a very rare early stock copy that has the rare demo stampers on both side in all the years I’ve been collecting I only know of a couple that have come up for sale.i can only find one on popsike.
This is the closest Your ever going to get to owning a demo of this single without paying thousands.
