The Beatles – Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. Genuine UK mono pressing with XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1 matrices on the Yellow & Black Parlophone label but WITHOUT 'Sold in UK…' label text. Catalogue number PMC 7027. Dates between August to November 1969.
A superb nr MINT investment grade copy of this ultra rarity.
Between 1965 and 1969 there had been no changes to the yellow & black Parlophone labels, however in late 1969 the ‘Sold in UK…’ wording was removed from the label design and for a matter of only weeks the Yellow & Black Parlophone labels took on the same appearance as they had back in 1963, albeit with ‘Gramophone’ rim text.
By November 1969 the yellow & black Parlophone labels had been dropped altogether by EMI and a completely new label had been designed ushering in a new era. This was of course the one box EMI silver & black label which ran from 1969 to 1971.
This record is from a very tiny batch of records pressed in MONO on the Yellow & Black labels from August/November 1969 and just prior to the silver & black label change.
Mono pressings on the one box silver & black label are also extremely rare and command high prices when they turn up at auction, however these MONO pressings on the Yellow & Black label omitting ‘Sold in UK…’ label text are as rare if not rarer than their one box EMI counterpart.
This is a stunning copy and provides a great investment potential.
Not to be missed!
Happy bidding and good luck!

CONDITION
Disc
Visual: EXC+to MINT-
Beautiful looking vinyl which still retains its original factory rainbow sheen. The vinyl appears mint in strong daylight, on closer inspection I noticed a light mark on side two, which appears and disappears when the record is angled or rotated. Under an unforgving halogen desklight there are sleeve removal and fine micro marks visible conistant with very light handling. Side one grades at or around near MINT, side two grades at or around excellent+ to near MINT. Extremely tough to find an unbanded MONO copy of Pepper in this wonderful condition. The vinyl lies 100% flat on the turntable.
Audio: MINT-
Fabulous audio throughout. There is no groovewear or distortion to any of the music signals. Very little surface noise, the intro to a Day in the Life is quiet. She’s Leaving Home plays superbly. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has the characteristic of rich crystal clear analogue sound. Incredibly rare to get a MONO audio of this perfection on an original mono UK Yellow & Black label pressing.
Labels: side one MINT- side one EXC+
The most important aspect to this record is of course these rare Yellow & Black Parlophone labels which OMIT the ‘Sold in UK…’ label text. The lettering to both labels is completely unworn. Both labels look fresh, side one has two faint spindle trails, side two has more evidence of spindle traces around the centre hole. There is no writing or personlisation to any of the labels. A stunning set of these ultra-rare and highly collectable labels.
Cover
EXCELLENT+
A superb and original Garrod & Lofthouse flipback cover. The sleeve retains its original high gloss laminate sheen. There are some light thumbnail creases on the front panel towards the opening edge but other than this there is very little to fault. The rear panel has just one light thumbnail crease. The interior gatefold which crackles as new when opened and is in MINT condition, appears never to have been opened previously. There is some light wear to the spine and the usual flaking of laminate but the writing is clearly readable and undamaged. All corners are sharp. Overall an impressive cover.
Cardboard cut-out MINT
Original and untouched
Inner-sleeve Exc+ to MINT-
