READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP Sgt. Pepper Unconfirmed Orange Capitol Label VERY RARE 1976

In the course of researching and writing a two-volume set of books on rare Beatles labels of American pressings, I have come across several labels that are so scarcely seen that they are either not yet mentioned in any of the existing books, or they are thought not to exist. 

Here’s a perfect example.

In my volumes, I have referred to these labels as “Straight Transfer Labels,” because before the Orange Capitol label issues had settled on their text layouts, in extremely limited examples, they simply used the templates of texts from the Apple labels.

So far, I have verified that the following titles exist as either “Straight Transfer Labels,” or else there are pressings with nearly identical text labels from the Apple run with some minor differences:

1.  Abbey Road

2.  Hey Jude

3.  Help!

4.  Magical Mystery Tour

5.  The Beatles’ Story

6.  Revolver

And this one.

(So comparing Apples to Oranges…)

Vinyl--- Excellent both sides.  There are some manufacturer’s cloudiness on both sides, one or two extremely light scratches.  Otherwise, both sides retain about 95% original shine.

Plates--- G28/ G34.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this a Los Angeles pressing.  In fact, with the exception of Help!, all of these titles are Los Angeles.

Cover--- Structurally solid, NO SPLITS.  Has light dirtwear on front and back covers.  Gatefold is beautiful, no center splits.

Labels--- VG+/ EX.  Side 1 label has a name written on it, which is too bad.  But for this label’s scarcity, it is what it is.  Both labels have light spindle marks confined to being inside the concentric groove.  Otherwise, both labels are gorgeous.

Insert--- Excellent.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve with die-cut holes for the labels to show through.

A VG copy of the Apple label version will be included as your basis for comparison.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
