The Beatles –Help!– Genuine 1965 UK 1st mono pressing on the yellow & black Parlophone label with ‘Sold in UK…’ label text, catalogue number PMC 1255. A Factory Sample dating to on or before the original release date of 6th August 1965. 

 

Help! An absolute classic of an album with tracks such as, Help!, You’ve got to Hide You’re Love Away, I’ve Just Seen a Face and many more.

When one considers the track listing, this album alone would have been sufficient to create a musical legacy.

Most mono records of this era were played endlessly on portable equipment usually at parties. Few survived in this condition. This has the added rarity of being a ‘Factory Sample’ given out to radio stations and a selected few.

Visual: Side one EXC+/MINT- Side two EXCELLENT+ 

Fresh looking vinyl with a beautiful rainbow sheen, which appears to have received only 3 or 4 plays in its 52 year history; a remarkably low amount for vinyl of this vintage. On initial inspection and when viewed in strong daylight side one appears virtually MINT with only the lightest of superficial marks. On closer inspection under an unforgiving halogen desk light nothing much more is revealed; side one grades somewhere between Exc+ to near MINT. A non feelable hairline is visible on part of the vinyl on side two, however it does disappear in certain light and does not effect the audio in any way. Side two grades at Excellent+. The vinyl lies 100% flat on the turntable.  

Labels: Side one EXC+/MINT- Side two MINT-

A fresh set of clean bright labels. Side one has a few light spindle trails. Side two has one possibly two light spindle trails indicating that the record has barely been played. A ‘Factory Sample NOT FOR SALE’ sticker is visible on side two indicating that it is an early promo sample. All silver text is completely unworn and appears fresh.

Audio: MINT-  

As the labels confirm this record has barely been played and this is further confirmed by the totally undistorted sound. There is absolutely no groovewear or playwear to any of the music signals. The sound throughout is stunning. The only noticeable imperfection I detected was 4 ticks in the gap between track 2 & 3 on side one, the first being at the very end of the fade out on track 2. Other than this the records plays superbly without fault with all the acoustic songs having a rich analogue depth to them free from any surface noise. However the litmus test for this album is the track Michelle which I can report plays perfectly. Even the easily damaged innermost track Dizzy Miss Lizzy, which is often distorted play grades at MINT. A wonderful audio example of this classic Beatles album. The vinyl does not stick or jump.

EXCELLENT

An original 1st issue patents pending Garrod & Lofthouse cover dating to 1965.The front panel shows some minor handling marks with the odd thumbnail and a minimum of storage wear. There is some natural ageing. The rear panel is free from any writing and all flipbacks are strong and intact. Overall grades at Excellent.

Inner-sleeve Excellent+

Original and correct Emitex rice paper inner.
