READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles LP 1964 Meet the Beatles! MONO Extra Tough Consigned Pressing, LA Labels, EX!
This consignment pressing is likely an RCA pressing. Generally, RCA pressings have the thick concentric grooves on the labels, as well as either a hand-etched or machine-stamped letter “R” in the dead wax.
This copy has the RCA concentric groove. But the Side 1 dead wax has the old-style 5-pointed thick star stamp from prior 1963, as opposed to the 1964 asterisk. Side 2 dead wax has no Capitol markings at all, and no RCA markings.
Whichever plant pressed this copy, the labels and just one plate was provided by the Los Angeles plant. The Side 2 plate remains in question.
A strange hybrid pressing.
**This is the copy that is pictured in my books on flash drive, available now. Be sure to pick up a copy for a lot more label variations, which you’ve never seen before! **
Vinyl--- EX/EX. Both sides shine with 95% brand new shine. However; each side has just two or three extremely short and faint markings that weren’t there when this disc left the pressing plant, dropping its grade from NM to EX.
A very beautiful disc!
Plates--- G8/G8. See opening paragraph for the rest.
Cover--- EX. There are a few light scratches to the front cover, uniformly light yellowing to the back cover. Some browning down the mouth on the back cover. All seams and spine are muscular-strong, NO SPLITS. Not even almost. Great cover!
Labels--- NM/NM. Full 100% gloss! Bold colors. These labels look brand new, which is highly unusual for a pressing now 61 years old.
Labels are from the third pressing MONO, with 3 BMI.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX. Original blue Capitol inner sleeve is present, and in very strong condition. Just a few barely perceptible wrinkles and finger divots. Sleeve has the west coast thumb tab.
NO SPLIT SEAMS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 6. Okay, the cover was provided by Los Angeles as well. That explains why it’s held up so incredibly well.
Wow. This is an incredibly nice copy of this album…I should keep it, now that I’m examining it.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
