My Kool Kollectibles is proud to present this ULTRA RARE PROMOTIONAL Compact 33 EP entitled The Capitol Souvenir Record (Capitol SPRO-2905) issued in 1965 to celebrate the grand opening of Capitol Records 3rd U.S. pressing plant in Jacksonville Illinois. I cannot overstate how rare this record is. I have only seen one other copy of this in person in all my 38 years of record collecting. I will describe in great detail the condition of this rarity as I found that not all agree on record grading. Let's start with the picture sleeve. I would give it a VG to VG+. All seams are intact. No stickers. No writing. No tears. Overall, quite flat and the corners are very nice.There is some ring wear on the back and some wear on the bottom front over the artist names. Some light staining on the back.(Please check out the scans...they tell the whole story!) The record would grade a VG to VG+! I played this record thru all the way both sides...very clean sounding. No pops or loud ticks and NO SKIPS! Visually, there are some visible lines, but again nothing that affects play! High gloss and quite shiny in bright light! The labels are great! Clean, no writing or stickers and no spindle marks! I've researched this record quite thoroughly. It is definitely a promo, only distributed through the music industry. Not widely distributed even to radio stations. The Compact 33 (played at 33 1/3 SPEED)features snippets of 15 Capitol artists, including the Beatles, Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, among others! Radio stations would have not played it because they are not the full tracks. It may have been given to executives of Capitol or perhaps as a free gift during tours of the new facility. It is unknown how many were actually pressed. The back of the sleeve features statements from 3 Capitol Record executives, includingAlan Livingston the president of Capitol Records and the person who signed the Beatles to the label.If you own Bruce Spizer's excellant book, The Beatles' Story on Capitol Records: Part Two (2000) ,you will find a color picture of this sleeve and record on pages 231 and 232 along with a brief description of the history of this rarity. Sought after by many collectors, including Beach Boys and Sinatra collectors, this record is most famous & highly sought after because of the inclusion of the Beatles I Want To Hold Your Hand.
