Description

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ITEM WAS PREVIOUSLY LISTED AND THE AUCTION WAS ENDED EARLY BY ME AS I WAS INFORMED BY A POTENTIAL BIDDER THAT THE ITEM WAS NOT GENUINE.  THEY STATED THAT THE PROMOTIONAL PACKAGE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN A PLASTIC BOX AND, AS I WAS OFFERING THIS ONE IN A CARDBOARD BOX, IT WAS A "FORGERY" TO USE THEIR WORDS.  I DECIDED TO WITHDRAW THIS TO MAKE SOME FURTHER CHECKS AND I AM PLEASE TO BE ABLE TO RE-LIST THIS NOW WITH THE PROMISE THAT THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY GENUINE ITEM.   AN EXPERT I HAVE CORRESPONDED WITH HAS CLARIFIED THE POSITION,  THERE WERE JUST A FEW IN PLASTIC BOXES AND IT WAS THESE WHICH WERE INTENDED TO GO TO ROYALTY AND OTHER DIGNITARIES.  THEY WERE PLAIN BLACK WITH A SPACE ON THE FRONT FOR A SPECIAL INVITATION CARD.  ACTUALLY, HARDLY ANY WERE SENT OUT AND IF ONE OF THESE WITH AN INVITATION CARD CAME ON THE MARKET YOU WOULD HAVE TO DIG VERY DEEP INTO YOUR POCKET!

SO, I AM RELISTING EXACTLY AS BEFORE BUT WITH THE SLIGHT REVISION THAT I NOW KNOW THIS ONE DID NOT COME FROM THE QUEEN OR THE PRIME MINISTER!  IT IS, OF COURSE, A GENUINE ARTICLE BUT I ALWAYS PREFER TO DOUBLE-CHECK.  (it is actually such a complex item it would be far to difficult to forge!).

"OUR FIRST FOUR"

This legendary Beatles APPLE LABEL record company promotional pack of four Apple singles was issued to comemorate the launch of the label in 1968.

Just a handful were presented to the press and various 'dignitaries' including, reputedly, the Prime Minister, Harold Wilson.  Whether this particular one came from him I do not know!

Each of the seven inch singles comes in its own folder and they are all housed in a black thin card cover.  The cover on this example has deteriorated somewhat but the folders and records are in very good shape.

The four records are, "Hey Jude" by the Beatles, "Those were the days", Mary Hopkin, "Sour MIlk Sea", Jackie Lomax and "Thingumybob" by "The Black Dyke Mills Band" being the first four, hence the title!

I have been dealing in Beatles items for many years and this is the first time I have had one of these to sell, in fact, I cannot find one having been offered for sale in over 20 years!

In spite of the condition of the box this is a most desirable item for any Beatles and 'Apple' collector and I am starting this at a low reserve to give the real fans a chance.

As with other rare records I am listing I would like to tell you a little about me to give you confidence in bidding and to assure you that this is an absolutely genuine item. I am the managing director of the world famous BEANOS RECORDS and we have had our shops in South London for over 30 years. I write about rare records, appear on TV and Radio and constantly in the National Press. It is BEANOS LIMITED that are selling this most desirable item but I want to be your contact for any queries and, also, to take away the faceless negotiation that an important international auction can sometimes have. I can tell you everything you need to know about the record if you email me with any questions and, you are welcome to visit our shop and view the actual item (by prior appointment) with myself.
