Beatle Lennon Some Time In New York City Factory Sample

John Lennon Album "SOME TIME IN NEW YORK CITY" ORIGINAL 1972 UK 1st Pressing "Factory Sample"!!!!

Released on the 15th September 1971!!!! This entered the charts on the 14th October 1972 where it  reached the Number 11 slot and stayed in the charts for a total of six weeks!!!!

This was the Seventh official EMI release by John Lennon and his first Double Album!!!!!

Record One was credited to John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with Elephants Memory and Invisible Strings!!!! While Record Two was credited to John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band  with The Mothers Of Invention and a Star Studded Cast of Thousands!!!!

This Double Album was frustratingly released in America THREE MONTHS  before here in the UK which meant that Import copies were appearing before it's release, which of course meant Lower sales figures were achieved here!!!! The reason for the delay was Copyright problems with Yoko's name appearing as co-writer on some songs. Northern Songs refused to aknowledge this claim. Also this was meant to be a Single Album with a FREE bonus Album of the "Live Jam", but as usual, it was assigned a Catalogue Number pushing it into a higher retail Price bracket!!!!

The Album Cover is designed to look like a Newspaper, and along with the Lyrics has a few Political Staements too!!!! The Face in the Apple (top left) is Phil Spector, and underneath the picture it says "To Know Him Is To Love Him"!!!! On the Rear it says "This Album Was Completed on March 20th 1972, Our Third Wedding Anniversary"!!!! The Sleeve concept was by John & Yoko and realized by Al Steckler, the Sleeve design was by Michael Gross!!!!

Obviously this "Recording" is NOT one of John's "Rarest" Albums to Locate!!!! However what makes this a Very Collectable item is the "Factory Sample" stickers on the Labels and the Condition!!!!

Factory Samples were as a rule used on only 500 records off the Press!!!! These were intended for "Radio Disc Jockeys", "Record Executives", "Record Reviewers" and "EMI Employees", to help Promote the sales of each record!!!! These were NOT FOR SALE and should not have got to the General Public!!!!

There are "Four" different types of Factory Sample Stickers"!!!! Type A: This is the First variation seen on The Beatles discs, and was in use from 1962 until around 1970. Type B: This is the Second variation, common from around 1970/1. Type C: This is the Third variation, common form around 1971 until roughly 1974. Type D: Fourth variation first starting to appear on some "Two Box LP's Sets" in 1974!!!! 

The Matrix, Mother and Stampers are:

Side One: YEX-893-2. On the run out grooves are the numbers 37 and the number 2.

Side Two: YEX-894-1. On the run out grooves are the numbers 77 and the number 1.

Side Three: YEX-895-3. On the run out grooves are the numbers 3 and the number 1.

Side Four: YEX-896-1. On the run out grooves are the numbers 102 and the number 1.

CONDITION OF VINYL:

The Centre Labels to both sides are in "Superb" condition. Though when held up to a very strong light there are Minimal signs of Spindal Marks present to both sides but NONE that even remotely spoil their look!!!! They are both Spotless and Clean and all the lettering is Perfect with no signs of Rubbing!!!!

The "Factory Sample" stickers are on Side: One: and Side: Three!!!!

The Vinyl still retains that Gloosy Look and has clearly been Very Well looked after which is reflected in the playback. There are one or two "Tiny" marks showing on the Vinyl when held up to a bright light (though these have been caused by handling). There are no Pops, Clicks or Jumps anywhere!!!!!!!! I play graded this on a Linn LP12 Sondek through a Linn System (which is very unforgiving). The Playback was "Superb"!!!! The record lays perfectly Flat with no Warping!!!!

Overall the Labels and Vinyl must grade as at least Excellent++!!!!

CONDITION OF SLEEVE:

The Vinyl is housed in it's ORIGINAL and correct Gatefold Sleeve!!!! This Sleeve is in Superb condition. There is NOT a Mark on it. The Spine is Perfect as are the Opening Edges!!!! Considering that this is an Unlaminated Sleeve it truly is in Remarkable condition. There are no Rips, Tears, Creases or Writing anywhere to be seen!!!! All 4 Corners are Sharp and Undamaged. This has to be one of the Best Sleeves I have seen to this particular Album!!!

I would grade the Sleeve again as Excellent ++!!!!

Both the Inner Sleeves are are again in Super condition, with only very slight indentations from where the records have sat in them over the Years!!!! There are no Rips, Tears or Writing anywhere!!!!

I would grade the Inners as Excellent!!!!

This Double Album is truly in Incredible condition!!!!

So here we have a Brilliant, Rare and Original UK John Lennon 1st Pressing of his "Seventh" album with  "Factory Samples" in overall "Excellen+" condition!!!!
