Bakerlook - Bakerloo (Harvest 1969) – German 1st press GEMA 1C 062-90 519
OK, you'll know this hard rock/blues/prog classic from 1969 is extremely hard to find. And most copies go for silly money.
So here's your chance to lay your hands on a 1st press German copy for a much more sensible price. Here's the detail:
The vinyl: if you're after a minty copy, look away now. If you don't have hundreds to invest in a slab of vinyl rarer than hen's teeth, but do want a playable copy to get in your collection, this could be the one for you.
Track 1 Side 1 has a feelable scratch across the bulk of the track. On a couple of occasions when I've played it, it's jumped through the track. I played it just now and it played through OK, albeit with an audible click on each rotation until about a minute before the end of the track. Can't guarantee how it will play on your deck, but worst case scenario is it will skip on this track. It might not.
The good news is that the rest of the album plays through without any major dramas and is perfectly listenable. Yes, there is surface crackle which features a little more on Side 1 (Good+ to VG) than Side 2, which largely plays through a solid VG+.
The labels are in good order but have a little writing on one side, and some numbers on a bit of Tippex on the other.
The laminated gatefold sleeve is in excellent order and a very nice example. It's not a stiff sleeve, but the flexiness has probably helped keep it in great order. A little corner buffing and a tiny bit of spine wear are really all I can see - nice clean centrefold and just a couple of barely noticeable bits of tape have been applied on the right inner centre and up the back of the cover, though it's hard to see why as there's no obvious damage. Possibly a bit of the lamination was lifting. A VERY nice gatefold sleeve.
White poly-lined inner sleeve is in decent condition.
All in all, it's a chance to hear the electrifying guitar work of Clem Clemson in his pomp, and a rare LP you'll happily add to your collection and be glad to have and play until you can afford to stump up for a better copy.
