Description

Hello and thanks for looking
I do not use the grade EX ever!
My grading scale (based on eBay standards):   Mint (only sealed) - Near Mint - Very Good  A more detailed grading scale is on the bottom.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - THE RIVER
Collectors Item - Scarce - only a couple of these have emerged over the years, you probably won't see another for a while.
COLUMBIA RECORDS - PC2 36854 SPECIAL PRODUCTS PROMO - GOLD STAMP ON BACK # 0000
WHERE IN THE WORLD DID THIS COME FROM??  NOBODY KNOWS... NOT EVEN THE BOSS'S BIGGEST FANATICS, AND THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!
NO INFO ON DISCOGS - DIFFERENT PRESSING PLANT - DIFFERENT MATRIX - BETTER AUDIOPHILE QUALITY SEMI-TRANSPARENT VINYL.
I placed the records in Die-Cut Poly Inner Sleeves
Cover -VG++ Vinyl - NM-
Details: Please look at ALL  Pictures, pictured item is the item for sale... always
Cover :  VG+ VERY NICE BUT STRANGE - Thin card stock (different from all other domestic issues that were on heavy card stock)  treated well over the years, just rubber corners and edges.  The spine looks great, all print is clearly legible, NO seam-splits, No Saw-marks or Promo Holes, NO Ring-wear, NO Writing A Complete Package with Custom Inners Sleeves and Custom Inner with Lyrics and Info all In Perfect Condition
Vinyl :  NM- Beautiful Vinyl, different formula than the standard Domestic Presses.  It's the Semi-Transparent type that is associated with audiophile editions of the day (like Mobile Fidelity - Japanese Pressings) I tried to convey the transparent aspect in picture #7, but it didn't come out very well.   There are some blemishes on the vinyl from either manufacturing or sleeve removal, no deep marks nothing that could possibly effect play.
Matrix Info :  This is really odd - (earlier matrix than the Domestic Issue)   Disc 1, side 1 - AL 36855-1AB | side 2 - BL 36855-1AA   Disc 2, side 3 - AL 36856-1AB | side 4 - BL 36856-1AA  On each side is also LS and what looks like EMW, all a mystery.  In addition, the domestic Columbia version has MASTERED BY CAPITOL stamped in the dead wax. That is NOT found on this pressing, Personally I always assume "MASTERED BY CAPITOL" a BAD thing. You will Never See AB - AA pressing for this album anywhere but HERE.  THIS is what leads me to believe that this is a special press, a Different Mastering than what we all know and love.  The Labels are Obviously Different, Displaying CBS Special Products at 9 o'clock on all sides No Spindle Marks - Perfect Labels
I have read some Collectors Believe this to be a small Advanced Pressing, possibly even rejected.  This could explain the differences in the cover, vinyl formula, mastering differences and Matrix info.  This is only speculation.
Playback :   VG++ playback - real quiet vinyl, rare for this much-loved album, one of the Boss's best!
Sorry everyone but I did place a small reserve amount on this item. This is so rare I don't even know if there is a demand for it, and I'm not willing to part with it for nothing.  If you win and the Reserve isn't met, we can probably come to a conclusion that works for everybody.

I always ship within 2 days of payment. I always use proper Lp mailers with padding. If you have any questions or want more detailed pictures please let me know. I have 100% positive feedback as a seller and a buyer so please bid with confidence. Please contact me for international rates

• MINT (M) Looks new and unplayed. Very high vinyl luster and no noticeable label defects. Sounds new. With 45rpm records, this does not always mean there is no surface noise at all.

• NEAR MINT (NM) Looks almost new, but has some minor flaws such as a drill hole; unobtrusive writing on label (e.g., an X on a promo copy); minor scuffing on vinyl; minor color flaking on label, or other insignificant flaws that only slightly detract from visual appeal. May have some minor surface noise, but nothing distracting.

• VERY GOOD (VG) There may be light scuffing and some of the original vinyl luster may be lost. The vinyl and label may appear used, but well cared for. Records may have some more obvious flaws that are not visually degrading such as a sticker on the label; more noticeable writing on the label; scuffing and minor scratches on the vinyl; or minor discoloration of the label. There may be very minor warping of the vinyl. There may be a slight scratch not affecting play.
