BOB PATTERSON S/T R.D.P. Records '71 Private Press RARE
R.D.P. Records catalog number RDP-1, the self-titled solo debut from the former leader of the Vanguard Records group Elizabeth, Philadelphia's Bob Patterson. The record is also known by the title Instrumentalist, Singer, Songwriter which is seen on copies with the full cover art. Recorded in 1970 (the label shows song copyrights dated 1968, '69 and '70) and self-released in 1971, I believe. Recorded and released "straight from Baker Sound, Philadelphia PA" and featuring some fairly serious names as sidemen including the great Jerry Ricks. Copies with the plain cover predate those with cover art by a number of months, it appears. More than one plain-sleeve copy of this record has sold over the past few years in which Patterson signed the cover; this copy does NOT have his sig anywhere on it. Whoever did buy this copy decided to put their own original cover art on it, with limited success but (in my opinion) fantastic folk-art results. It's as though Willie Jenks bought this or something. The date 7-31-71 is also written on the cover. This customized cover is in good shape: a little dirty with a bit of ringwear and a bump top right, a little split not on the edge of the cover but on the bottom front. The vinyl is very nice indeed--it has been played but is glossy and straight, a few visible marks here and there, mainly on track three on the first side of the LP. There is some audible noise on this track and the first few seconds of the next track but they do not detract significantly from enjoyment of the song. Overall I grade this one VG+ and would have no problem calling it EX were it not for the one track. Matrix numbers RDP-1A/1B, "F/W N" and either "IC" or "JC" also etched into the runoff, both sides. If there's anything else you'd like to know about this LP just drop a line and I'll help out if I can, A very, very nice copy of an excedingly rare LP. Cleaned (and cleaned again) on the VPI machine. Bid with confidence. Thanks, have fun and good luck.
