BOB MARLEY & WAILERS
EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL
1973 BBC TRANSCRIPTION LP!

Reggae's most transcendent and iconic figure, Bob Marley was the first Jamaican artist to achieve international superstardom, in the process introducing the music of his native island nation to the far-flung corners of the globe. Marley's music gave voice to the day-to-day struggles of the Jamaican experience, vividly capturing not only the plight of the country's impoverished and oppressed but also the devout spirituality that remains their source of strength. His songs of faith, devotion, and revolution created a legacy that continues to live on not only through the music of his extended family but also through generations of artists the world over touched by his genius.--Allmusic Guide

Recorded in 1973 and broadcast in October of that year, this BBC performace captures the Wailers at their most basic and raw. With the complete original lineup including Buny Wailer (listed on cuesheet as Bunny Livingstone) and Peter Tosh (likewise listed as Peter Mackintosh), the group was promoting its first Island Records release, Catch A Fire. During the nearly hour-long show contained on this LP, the group performs nearly every track from the album as well as Get Up Stand Up which was to be included on the follow-up LP, Burnin'. The music, which at the time sounded strange and alien to most people's ears, now reveals itself in its stripped down beauty. While Marley, Tosh and Wailer continued to make great music for several years following this recording, they never quite regained the visceral power of early performances such as the one offered here.

This EXTREMELY RARE BBC transcription disc is highly sought after by serious Marley collectors for several reasons: the high quality of the performance and recording as well as its very limited availability. Because this British pressing was only released to a select number of radio stations, it has been estimated that less than a hundred copies exist, making it one of the rarest Marley items ever!

Condition of the vinyl is NEAR MINT with only the slightest amount of wear visible. It comes in the original manila folder that it was issued in and it includes a 2-sided cuesheet and a 1 page bio. The LP has been carefully stored by one owner for the last 20+ years.

Don't miss this opportunity to pick up this one of a kind Marley rarity!

PLEASE NOTE: We have set our shipping prices to cover costs on an average basis. You may be charged slightly more - or less - than the actual cost of postage; Priority postage varies according to destination, records and jackets vary in weight, all of which makes it impossible to set an exact "correct" price for all customers, especially internationally. We ship all LP's in new (unused) custom LP mailers. We pack records with filler pads, placing the disc in an inner sleeve outside the cover to prevent seam splitting in transit. Part of our postage fee covers the cost of the mailer and pads (which currently costs us up to a dollar per).

RECORD GRADING POLICY

MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale

NEAR MINT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially effect play

VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.

VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.

VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.

Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like

Fair = you’re getting this record just to own but not to play

Poor = the sky’s the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
