If you fee like you've seen this one before, you have. The main difference this time is that is NO RESERVE PRICE.  This is set up on a real, straight ahead auction basis.  So, having said that...here is some info about what you're bidding on. 


The Collection

To be honest, many of the tunes on this ten LP box set (containing over eight hours of music and 134 previously unreleased tracks) are positively awful. Dylan’s guitar is out of tune, he plays some godawful harmonica, he forgets the words to tunes...well, you get the picture. (He also cracks up a lot, which I think is totally cool).  For those of you who like Dylan's piano playing, there's a ton of it here.

The long and the short of it is this:  Never has there been a more complete picture of Dylan’s work between 1961 and 1966  -- surely his “genius” period.

The box set includes a 16-page booklet, which includes several original Dylan sketches. The booklet is compiled by Carla Rotolo, sister of Dylan’s old girlfriend Suze Rotolo. The print is tiny... so get ready to put on your reading glasses.

ABOUT THE SELLER

A bit about me: Prior to beginning my journalistic career, I was on the road for seven years, playing pedal steel guitar with a number of stellar (and not so stellar) recording artists. I began my journalistic career as a music critic for the Los Angeles Times around 1975. I wrote a country music column for the Los Angeles Daily News for three boring years. I was the first music editor for the L.A Weekly. My articles and critiques (not all on music, which I became bored with) have appeared in virtually every major magazine in both the U.S and Europe.  These days I work as a screenwriter.

I first saw Dylan at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1966. I have been a fan ever since.  I have attended over 100 Dylan concerts, have interviewed him one-on-one several times, and have been at many press conferences and parties that he attended. In 1990 I almost landed a job playing pedal steel for him. As much as I wanted the gig, in a way I’m glad I didn’t get it, as Bob is reportedly a very difficult person to work for. straight.

As I respect Bob’s privacy, I will only say this. Despite the legend, he is really no mystery. He appears to be exactly what he is  -- probably he most gifted singer/songwriter of our century, a mercurial man who changes personas like costumes.

The fact that Dylan is still working – his voice shot to hell --  not mention to looking ten years older then he actually is, attests to the fact, that like an old vaudeville performer, he is a troubadour. I suspect he will keep going until he can’t do it anymore.

Most of the discs are very good to very good condition. There are some scratches on discs 3 and 4, and one on disc 17, but there are no skips to speak of.  Many of these discs have never been played.  The cover of the set is in fair to good condition, with a couple of small coffee stains.

To go on and blab endlessly about this LP would only be a waste of your time and mine. To say it is a rare collector’s item is redundant. There is a ton of Dylan stuff available on ebay. Some of it is OK, some  of it is junk. It’s worth your while to do a little research before you place a bid.

I will the address the issue of my newness as an eBay seller (I have been a member since 1999), as it seems to be a matter of concern (and it should be). This last week, I sold my first item (hurrah!)  However, If you are more inclined to bid on items from  a more experienced seller, I completely understand. I am a Christian (a Jewish/ Christian, just like Bob!) and I believe not only in the precepts of the Lord, but also that “what goes around comes around.” In other words, I am a seller who you can trust.
