THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PRESS WITH THE VERY RARE ACB00166 /WMA 005 RECORD CLUB ISSUE LABELS AND THE DELETED WMA 005 AND HAND ETCHED ACB00166 MATRIX ON SIDE TWO. THESE PRESSINGS PRODUCED A MUCH SUPERIOR AUDIO TO THE LATER RE-ISSUES. THE ORIGINAL UNLAMINATED COVER IS IN AT LEAST EXCELLENT CONDITION (SEE DESCRIPTION) THE ALBUM COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL LYRIC SHEET INNER SLEEVE, ONLY WITH 1ST ISSUES. THE AUDIO IS SUPERB APART FROM THE ODD BIT OF STATIC/DIRT TICK / CRACKLE IT PLAYS VERY CLOSE TO MINT ON MY SYSTEM.

I have been a collector of vinyl for more than 30 years, with a collection of over 2,000 albums, the time has come to part with some of the collection. Over the coming months I will be listing some of the albums I have decided to part with here on ebay as well as on my bluesvinyl4u website, while the majority of my albums are blues related from all eras, there will be a mixed bag to chose from.

ALBUM DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is the fifth studio album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1973.

With this album, the band expanded upon their slow, crunching style of music and included synthesizers, strings, keyboards and more complex, orchestral arrangements.

Following the 1972-1973 world tour in support of their Volume 4 album, Black Sabbath again returned to Los Angeles, California to begin work on their next album. Pleased with the Volume 4 album, the band sought to recreate the recording atmosphere, and returned to the Record Plant Studios with new producer and engineer Tom Allom. Although the album credits the band's manager Patrick Meehan as producer, guitarist Tony Iommi said "Meehan's ego got involved, and he stuck his name down as producer". With new musical innovations of the era, the band were surprised to find that the room they had used previously at the Record Plant was replaced by a "giant synthesizer". The band rented a house in Bel Air and began writing in the summer of 1973, but due in part to substance issues and fatigue, were unable to complete any songs. "Ideas weren't coming out the way they were on Volume 4 and we really got discontent" Iommi said. "Everybody was sitting there waiting for me to come up with something. I just couldn't think of anything. And if I didn't come up with anything, nobody would do anything."

After a month in Los Angeles with no results, the band opted to return to England, where they rented Clearwell Castle in The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. "We rehearsed in the dungeons and it was really creepy but it had some atmosphere, it conjured up things, and stuff started coming out again". While working in the dungeon, Iommi stumbled onto the main riff of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", which set the tone for the new material. Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman was brought in as a session player, appearing on "Sabbra Cadabra".

Black Sabbath released Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath on December 1, 1973. For the first time in their career, the band began to receive favourable reviews in the mainstream press, with Rolling Stone calling the album "an extraordinarily gripping affair", and "nothing less than a complete success". Later reviewers such as All Music's Ed Rivadavia cite the album as "a masterpiece, essential to any heavy metal collection", while also displaying "a newfound sense of finesse and maturity".

The audio on my systems the audio is superb loud, clear vibrant with beautiful stereo reproduction, no distortion at all, it plays through with no skips, jumps, pops or clicks, apart from the very odd bit of static/dirt noise in some quiet sections it sounds superb in my opinion, in fact apart from the static type noise I heard very occasionally the audio is pretty close to mint.  (Obviously with an album of this age the odd bit of static has to be allowed for, a good professional clean would be helpful as I did notice some debris on the surface after test playing the album) To err on the side of caution I am going to rate the audio as Excellent Plus.

THE VINYL

On initial visual inspection the vinyl is really superb, the glossy heavy vinyl looks beautiful and lays perfectly flat on the turntable, on initial visual inspection I can see no sounding needle marks scratches or scuffs at all, not a hint of groovewear. Only under a angled light can any slight sleeve removal type marks be seen.

THE COVER 

This is the original unlaminated card cover printed and made by Howards Printers England. The cover is in superb condition again rare to find with a 37 year old Sabbath record, there are no splits, tears or writing and only the bare minimum of storage wear. The spine is straight and square with all the writing fully legible. Inside the the cover looks mint, if it were not for a slight crease to the top left front and a very small crease on the rear which is only noticeable on close inspection the cover would be easily near mint. The original very thin paper lyric inner sleeve has no writing and has only a small amount of storage creasing and marks, there is a small split on one side.

THE LABELS 

The WWA labels look superb, clean with no marks or writing with a minimal amount of spidering. The spindle holes are perfectly round no signs of wear, exceptionally rare to find on a 37 year old Sabbath record.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
