1933 STUDIO TRANSCRIPTION - A
DEAD WAX # 68471
*
CONDITION: VG+ steady background hiss (on my cheap modern Crosley player) but well below the transcription recording.
This is a studio disc / radio / transcription used for in theater & radio promotion of the 1933 movie COLLEGE HUMOR from the personal library of Nat Finston who was the Orchestra conductor on & general Music Director for films from Paramount & MGM between 1928 & 1945. (He is mentioned on this record) It is from his daughter Beatrix Padway's estate.
I AM NOT SURE WHO THE ANNOUNCER IS. JACK OAKIE , RICHARD ARLEN & MARY CARLISLE ARE IN THIS. BURNS & ALLEN ARE
SUPPOSEDLY ON IT TOO (THEY ARE INTRODUCED BUT I COULD NOT IDENTIFY THERE VOICES SO I AM NOT SURE.) THEY ALL SING THE OLD OX ROAD . THEN BING CROSBY SHOWS UP & SINGS ONE VERSE OF THE OLD OX ROAD. IT OPENS WITH THE CHORUS SINGING PLAY BALL.
Directed by Wesley Ruggles, the musical sendup of College Humor centers around the blooming love between a college professor (Bing Crosby) and one of his students (Mary Carlisle). Feeling stilted, the school football star (Richard Arlen) is temporarily unable to concentrate on his game. Fortunately for the team, Crosby's romantic interest has a football-loving brother (Jack Oakie) who saves the day. Husband and wife team Gracie Allen and George Burns appear as themselves, stopping by to create mayhem at a fraternity dance. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide
