Description

Billy Butterfield 16 inch Radio Transcription Disc.  Two complete, approximately 15 minute radio programs on this 16 inch, black lacquer acetate coated aluminum, 33 1/3 rpm disc.  This disc was recorded for reference purposes and not available to the general public, very rare

Both programs were broadcast on ABC

Billy Butterfield and His Band performing live July 5, 1945.   Possibly a late night broadcast as the announcer states: “OK you late hour music lovers, here it is, a midweek jam session of the back room of the American Broadcasting Company”.  Announced personnel include Hank D’Amico (clarinet), Arthur Rollini (sax), Marty Dale (piano), Vernon Brown (trombone), George Wettling (drums), Sid Stoneburn (sax), Felix Joby (bass).  Songs include (theme), “You Go To My Head”, “Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart”, “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen”, (theme).  Approximately 15 minutes complete

The second show is announced as “American Jazz Concert” from July 18, 1945 with Ray Carter & The All Stars.  Ray Carter is most likely a pseudonym for Billy Butterfield – and their theme songs just happen to be the same!  Announced personnel include Phil Napoleon (trumpet), Sid Stoneburn (baritone sax), Eddie Barefield (tenor sax), Geroge Wettling (drums), Hank D’Amico (clarinet), Vernon Brown (trombone), Marty Dale (piano), Felix Joby (bass).  Songs include (theme), “Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart”, “You Go To My Head”, “Thou Swell”, “Yesterday”, “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen”, (theme).  Approximately 15 minutes complete

I could not find existing examples of either of these radio broadcasts in any online log or database

There is a ding in the edge of the disc that does not effect play, otherwise disc is in Excellent condition with Excellent sound, sounds like a direct line-check

Due to their size, most standard turntables will not play 16 inch radio transcriptions.  For $10 I can make a CD copy of the disc for the buyer only
