This is easily the single most praised popular and critical cult favorite of the '70s: the much-sought Big Star's second - and according to Alex Chilton who consistently refused to recognize their third album - the last real album released by the Big Star. Big Star, who were neighbors, contemporaries and label-mates (Ardent was a Stax subsidiary) of such Stax/Volt legends as Booker T. and the MG's, Carla and Rufus Thomas, or Albert King, created a lasting masterpiece of rocking urgency, bold harmonies, twanging guitars, intricate chord changes and some real loud, intense R&R. A masterpiece of 70s power-pop, and a great album, if ever we’d met one. The album was pressed as the band was disintegrating, to minimal promotion and advertising, and nice copies are brutally hard to come by.

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a small cutout saw-mark (an indent about 3-5 mm long ) on one of its seams.

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Cover has the original price sticker, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)

-         Cover has a minor (less than 1 square inch total) tape residue (yellowish discoloration from the removed piece of old and aged scotch tape) on the two corners on the opening side

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the spine

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the top and bottom seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent.

-         Cover has a partially split spine (less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
