Description

An extremely rare Berliner single-sided 5 inch (12.5cm) gramophone record pressed into vulcanised rubber with original pink paper lyric sheet intact on the reverse. The record's catalogue number is Berliner35 and the title is "Who Killed Cock Robin".

The record is dated May 16th 1888 but this is likely to be the date of one of the patents filed by Emile Berliner in England to protect his invention of the pressed flat disc which rivaled Thomas Edison's cylinder process. The record was certainly published between 1889 and 1891 at the birth of recorded sound and the mass-entertainment industry. The record is in very good condition without major surface abrasions or scratches. The lyric sheet on the reverse of the disc has very minor abrasions.
