For the 1970 sequel to Planet of the Apes, Leonard Rosenman was appointed to compose the musical score. Rosenman earned his reputation with film scores for East of Eden (1955), Rebel Without a Cause (1955), and Fantastic Voyage (1966).
As Film Score Monthly describes it, Rosenman created a compelling set of percussive barbarism always associated with the upside-down civilization of the ape planet. His 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' is inventive and otherworldly, one of the most original science fiction movie scores ever written. -Fandom-
